Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” in Chicago

a conversation between Maestro Carlo Rizzi and Musicologist Jesse Rosenberg, Northwestern University

On the occasion of Lyric Opera’s upcoming production of Nabucco conducted by Maestro Carlo Rizzi

On the occasion of Lyric Opera’s upcoming production of Nabucco conducted by Maestro Carlo Rizzi, The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Lyric Opera of Chicago, presents Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco in Chicago a conversation between Maestro Carlo Rizzi and Musicologist Jesse Rosenberg, Northwestern University

Wednesday, January 20th at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute

Politics. Religion. A dangerous love triangle. Plus two killer roles and some of the greatest choral music ever written, including the soul-stirring “Va, pensiero” chorus. The ensembles are as thrilling as the arias in the opera that made Verdi a star!   On one side, the fiery Hebrew priest Zaccaria, battling to lead his people from oppression. On the other, Nabucco, the tyrannical Babylonian king and his adopted daughter Abigaille, who will stop at nothing to get her father’s throne and her sister’s lover.  Maestro Carlo Rizzi stands among today’s finest conductors. His work, acclaimed for its dynamic energy, insight and captivating emotional power, is in demand globally from New York’s Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, to La Scala, Milan and La Monnaie in Brussels. Jesse Rosenberg received his PhD from New York University, and has been on the musicology faculty of Northwestern University since 1998. Both as a scholar and teacher he specializes in 19th-century Italian opera, and has published his researches on Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Mascagni, as well as studies on opera and religion.

Guests of the Italian Cultural Institute are eligible to receve 20% off all Monday -Friday performances of Nabucco at Lyric Opera. Simply enter ITALIA in the “enter promo code” field online at www.lyricopera.org and the discounted price will appear.
