LO SCHERMO DELL’ARTE FILM FESTIVAL

Screening of Alfredo Jaar’s The Ashes of Pasolini (2009, 38′) and World-premiere of Luca Trevisani’s SUDAN (2016, 15′).

Saturday, September 24th at 1:00 pm at Gene Siskel Film Center

The Ashes of Pasolini pays tribute to the poet-filmmaker in his totality as a political activist and an artist. Artist, architect, and filmmaker Jaar brings a keen awareness of the leftist political philosophy that informed Pasolini’s work in this moving account of his life and death, inspired by Pasolini’s own poem, “The Ashes of Gramsci.” Preceded by the world premiere of artist Luca Trevisani’s SUDAN, an intimate portrait of the last known Northern White Rhino, kept in captivity under armed guard in a Nairobi wildlife park. Program presented in cooperation with EXPO CHICAGO and the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. Both are in Italian with English subtitles.

SUDAN director Luca Trevisani and Silvia Lucchesi, director of the Lo Schermo dell’Arte film festival, will be present for audience discussion.

Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival is an international project dedicated to explore, analyze and promote the complex relations between contemporary art and cinema through films, videos, installations, workshop and training projects and residencies for international artists.
