23 feb

Presented by the Italian American Theatre of Chicago and Studio Z, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago.

In this once-in-a-lifetime treat, Antonio Fava, Italy’s world-renowned maestro of Commedia dell’Arte, brings us his tale of man’s ability to mess up even the best of luck. On his way to claim a lottery jackpot, Pulcinella is struck dumb when a black cat crosses his path. Without his usually nimble tongue, he must face down a bewitching beauty, a suspicious foreigner, a scolding wife and Death itself on the precarious path to riches.

Fava plays Pulcinella, a role inherited from his Calabrian father and grandfather. Annina Giré, 24-year-old Swiss soprano, plays all other parts. The comedy is in English with original masks and music.

Reception begins at 6:00. Dinner follows the performance.
