Professor Graziano Pinna, Department of Psychiatry, University of Illinois at Chicago will speak on how a healthy diet of fruit, vegetables, fish and lean meat can improve depression. He will discuss clinical studies that were conducted on individuals suffering from depression, who changed their diet for only few weeks and improved their mood. These landmark clinical studies mark the first evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of a healthy diet as an antidepressant. “A variety of studies demonstrate that an unhealthy diet can lead one to the risks of depression and how to the contrary, a healthy diet can lead one to less of a risk for developing this illness or even treat depression symptoms," stated Neuroscientist Graziano Pinna in an interview with ANSA.

Prof. Pinna will show the impact of the gut microbiome and how a healthy diet facilitates the production of brain-active modulators and ultimately play an important role in reducing depression symptoms. As a final suggestion, during his talk, he will present evidence for improving your mood with a simple healthy practice, including good food and physical exercise.
