In 2026, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carlo Collodi (Carlo Lorenzini), the Italian author of The Adventures of Pinocchio, the story of the famous wooden puppet, carved by Geppetto, who dreams of becoming a real boy and embarks on a journey filled with adventures, discoveries, and life lessons. Two centuries later, his timeless story continues to inspire generations.
As part of Collodi 200, Enzo D’Alò’s animated film Pinocchio invites us to rediscover the magic of this beloved character and his extraordinary world.
Considered one of the leading figures in European animation, Enzo d’Alò has built a distinguished career marked by his attention to storytelling, the emotional depth of his characters, and his ability to engage audiences of all ages. His Pinocchio is the result of an extensive process of research and reflection on Carlo Collodi’s celebrated novel, approached through a personal and original perspective. The director’s reinterpretation also stems from an intimate reflection on his relationship with his father, shaped by loss and by a desire to explore the complexities of a bond that can at times be marked by conflict.
The film also stands out for the contributions of two major figures in Italian culture: Lucio Dalla, who composed the music, and Lorenzo Mattotti, who created the character designs and visual settings. The result is a compelling animated work that reimagines a classic of Italian literature through a distinctive visual language and evocative musical score.
The screening also celebrates the 26th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World.
