M° Ugo Spanu, originally from Sassari, graduated in 1991 with top grades from the Conservatorio “L. Canepa” in Sassariugo, with a degree in Organ and Organ Composition under the guidance of M° L. Tummeacciu. He also obtained a degree in Harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition in 1994 with M° A. Costa. He studies Piano with M° M. Barboro. He has performed in concerts since he was 15 years old. In 1991 on the occasion of the 200 years from W.A. Mozart’s death, he executed the integral opera for organ of the Salzburg composer. In 1993 he was admitted to the program for organ perfecting at the Accademia Chigiana (Siena). In 1995 he received a diploma in Choral Music and Choir Direction at the Conservatorio “F.Morlacchi” in Perugia, under the supervision of M° M. Fracassi. He continued his studies at the Conservatorio “L Da Palestrina” in Cagliari where he attended a program for orchestra directing. He perfected composition skills with M° L. Pelosi. He is now a docent in organ and Gregorian chants at the Conservatorio “L.Canepa” in Sassari and of Organ and Organ Composition at the Scuola civica di musica i Nuoro. Since 1999 he has directed the Coro Polifonico Algherese.
