On the occasion of Earth Day, the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago presents the screening of the documentary “Po” (2022) directed by Andrea Segre. “Po” tells the story of November 14, 1951, when the left bank of the homonymous river broke, just a few hundred meters from the Padua-Bologna railway bridge. In a few minutes the tide invaded the Polesine’s lands, one of the poorest Italian regions at the time. Thousands of people, men, women and children fled, while the water remained stagnant for months surrounding the houses and the countryside. Today, 70 years later, the children of that time remember those months, with images captured by the films perfectly preserved in the Istituto Luce’s archives.
Free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Doors open at 4:30pm CT and seats are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis, until capacity is reached.
First celebrated on April 22 1970, Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
