Puccini’s first major success, Manon Lescaut. The musical setting of Abbé Prévost’s infamous novel, (banned in France) is a tale of love, desire and betrayal set against the backdrop of 18th-century France and the Louisiana Purchase territory. The premiere in 1893 was Puccini’s initial triumph and remains a testament to his genius.
