The new season of Opera Festival of Chicago will be presented in a preview event at the Italian Cultural Institute, with an in-depth conversation about one of this year’s operatic highlights: “L’Amore dei Tre Re” (Love of Three Kings). After almost 70 years since its last performance in Chicago, the opera of Italo Montemezzi will be back in a special production and two dates in this year’s festival season.
To celebrate this unique occasion, the Opera Festival invites opera enthusiasts to join a conversation featuring some of the artists and staff members that worked on this production: Sasha Gerritson, the General Director of the Opera Festival of Chicago, Franco Pomponi, Artistic Director of the Festival and starring in the role of Manfredo, and Andrea Silvestrelli, opera singer performing the leading role of King Archibaldo, will share their insights into the opera as well as discussing its themes, its story, and its cultural significance.

The Opera Festival of Chicago presents world-class standard productions of Italian opera masterpieces in Chicago that rarely grace the stage in the United States. In doing so we aspire to: generate an inquisitive operatic appetite within Chicago audiences; make our work – and its cultural context – accessible to a wide audience; provide a stimulating and inspirational environment of Italian opera for artists and audiences alike; provide a vital opportunity for young artists entering the profession to uphold the high integrity and demands of Italian opera with artists and musicians who are established professionals; and to highlight and celebrate the immense talent that has originated from the Chicagoland area.
