The Fathers’ America: Poetry Reading & Musical Performance

A reading of poems from “The Fathers’ America” (Bordighera Press, 2016) L’America dei Padri,” Ernesto Livorni’s third collection with English translation. The author will read his poems with Laura Biagi, who will also provide the musical arrangements.

Ernesto Livorni is Professor of Italian Language and Literature, Comparative Literature and Religious Studies, at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His scholarly publications include Avanguardia e tradizione: Ezra Pound e Giuseppe Ungaretti (1998) and T. S. Eliot, Montale e la modernità dantesca (forthcoming). He also translated into Italian and edited Ted Hughes, Cave-Birds: Un dramma alchemico della caverna (2001). He has published articles in Italian and in English on medieval, modern and contemporary Italian literature, English and American literature, Italian-American literature, and comparative literature. Livorni has also published three collections of poems: Prospettiche illusioni (1977-1983) (1987) (Illusions of Perspective), Nel libro che ti diedi. Sonetti (1985-1986) (1998) (In the Book That I Gave You. Sonnets) and L’America dei Padri (2005) (The Fathers’ America, forthcoming: New York: Bordighera Press, 2015). His last collection Onora il Padre e la Madre (Honor Thy Father and Mother) (Passignano sul Trasimeno Perugia): Aguaplano – Officina del Libro, 2015) gathers new and collected poems. He has recently been involved in two projects together with Silvia Bottinelli: the volume The Taste of Art. Cooking, Food, and Counterculture in Contemporary Practices (Fayetteville: University of Arkansas Press, 2017) and the forthcoming issue of the journal Public Art Dialogue (London: Routledge) dedicated to Food Activism in Contemporary Practices.

Laura Biagi is an entrepreneur, educator, self-improvement coach, and performer. Dr. Biagi is currently working at the Multicultural Faculty at DePaul University’s Theatre School, where she teaches her approach to performance studies, leadership, critical pedagogy, and storytelling at Cook County Jail (CCDOC). She has lectured on identity, conflict-resolution, and contemplative pedagogy at conferences and guest talks at DePaul University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Howard University, Xavier University, and the Inside-Out Center.
