Presented on the occasion of the XVIII Annual Italian Language Week in the World, an initiative to promote Italian as a great language of classical and contemporary culture. This year, the XVIII edition of the Italian Language Week in the World will be held October 15-21. The chosen theme is “L’italiano e la rete, le reti per l’italiano” (Italian and the web, social networks for the Italian Language).

This event is presented in Italian.

Rivers of words. The flow of informal Italian and social media

~~Digital communication has become an integral part of our daily lives, both linguistically and in casual conversations. The Italian of social media is fluid and syncopated. It is quick and informal. The manner in which we form our content and thoughts adapt to the way they are communicated.

Stefania Spina, Professor at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, will talk about how digital communication is now part of everyday life and how the Italian language is influenced by social media.

While in the US, Professor Spina will deliver this same lecture on October 19th at the Scarab Club in Detroit, presented by the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan, and at the University of Colorado, Boulder, on October 22.

Free and open to the public.
