A lecture by Dr. Corinna Raimondo, Adjunct Professor at Nothwestern University

Universities and research centers are heavily embedded into our society. Many hospitals are university based and perform research, the majority of start-ups and innovative companies stem from universities. Research instructs policy makers and allows approval and use of drugs, cosmetics, cleaning products, etc.

Is research always trustworthy? Are scientist incorruptible? Who’s going to protect society if they fail?

We’ll walk the path from the Nazi’s experiments, to today's research to discover what is in place and what might need improvement in research.

Dr. Corinna Raimondo is an Adjunct Professor in Responsible Conduct of Research at McCormick  School of Engineering and a Senior Compliance Specialist for the Office for Research Integrity at Northwestern University. She has a PhD in physical chemistry and 2 post docs from Northwestern University. Since 2018, she has been a web content developer for the Association of Research Integrity Officers (ARIO) website, a reviewer of the Journal of Science and Engineering Ethics, and a leader of the Forensics Peer Group in the Association for Research Integrity Officers (ARIO). She also served as a Mirzayan & J. Herbert Hollomon Fellow at the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Center for Engineering Ethics and Society.

The event is organized in collaboration with AIRIcerca and is part of the series "Caffè scientifico" (Café scientifique)

AIRIcerca is an association of Italian researchers in the world, created with the aim of promoting networking among Italian researchers that live and work in different countries, in the hopes of creating scientific collaborations and exchanging useful information. Since 2017 AIRIcerca has had a Chicago chapter, which attracts Italian researchers active in the City of Chicago and the surrounding areas.
