The Future of Italian Diaspora Studies
A lecture by Professor Margherita Ganeri, Università della Calabria

Starting with a definition, and a brief outline of the current position of Italian American Studies within the Italian Diaspora Studies, this talk hypothesizes the birth of a new phase of these studies, due to their growing recognition. Although still under development, this new phase seems to bear with it a new bi-cultural and transnational perspective, which promises to be very fruitful, both for Italy and for the United States. The current scenario shows the need for an enlargement of Italian American Studies into a global historiography of the Italian Diaspora.

Margherita Ganeri is Full Professor of Contemporary Italian Literature and Director of the Seminar “Italian Diaspora Studies” at the University of Calabria. She has a wide record of publications, with 10 authored books and more than 50 essays on recognized national and international academic journals. She is on the board of Directors of the journal «Moderna» and on the editorial board of «Allegoria». She also directs the book series “Italian Diaspora Studies” for the publisher Rubbettino.
