Viewable from December 16-21
On the occasion of the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice on December 21, the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago and the National Center for Short Films (il Centro Nazionale del Cortometraggio) will celebrate an international day of short films, featuring the following Italian short films, which will be viewable from December 16-21:
Il nostro tempo, by Veronica Spedicati (2019 – 16′ )
Roberta is a nine-year-old girl who wants to enjoy the last days of summer on the beach playing with her friends, while her father Donato forces her to stay at home to help with the housework. The distance between the two seems unbridgeable, but the discovery that Donato is much more fragile than he seems, will lead them to restore value to their time together. Watch trailer.
Lunedì, by Massimo Fallai (2019 – 17′ )
Florence. During the summer fashion week, two electricians, a man and a boy, are busy setting up the lighting system for the event of a famous brand. From morning until evening they cross the city in their van from one end to the other. It will be an opportunity for the two to confront each other one final time before the start of the following week, which marks the beginning of a new path for both of them. Watch trailer.
Mezze stagioni, by Bruno Ugioli and Riccardo Menicatti (2019 – 10′ )
A young couple prepares to go to a ceremony. Emilia is late with her clothing, while Pietro quarrels with the knot of his tie, agitated over a speech they have asked him to give, but which he does not know how to deal with. The two converse, chasing each other around the house, from time to time changing rooms and… phases of their life as a couple: their first meeting at 18, the daily bickering as old people, the birth of their son Luca. In every room of the house, their age changes, as does the context of their ceremony, showing us the nuances of a love in the daily folds of life. Watch trailer.
Passaggi, by Beppe Leonetti (2019 – 14′ )
The undertow of memory drags a father and a son. Two childhoods lived in the same place, in two different eras, very distant from each other. Two worlds united by long journeys in time and space, in an attempt to dispel the fog in which the shadows stir.
14, by Aldo Surricchio (2019 – 14′ )
A boy with an apparently normal life and a somewhat antiquated job, on the heels of a big disappointment in love and various ups and downs, falls in love with a girl he sees in some photos he was developing. He will end up being pleasantly surprised.
Jiaozi, by Luca Canale Brucculeri (2019 – 8′)
In an old Taiwanese cinema, now out of use, the reels of a film never before shown are found: “Jiaozi” tells the story of a female vendetta dictated by the rules of the time, in which serenity and patience are the only way to survive a struggle that has been going on for years.
