The Centennial of Andrea Zanzotto’s Birth: The Legacy of a Great Italian Poet and Dante’s Presence in His Verses

Prof. Welle and Prof. Maggi will first highlight the centrality of Andrea Zanzotto in the history of Italian poetry, his extraordinary uniqueness from both a stylistic and thematic standpoint. They will also investigate the presence of Dante’s oeuvre in Zanzotto’s poetics and language.

Armando Maggi is the Arthur and Joann Rasmussen Professor of Western Civilization at the University of Chicago, where he teaches in the department of Romance Languages and Literatures. His field of study is early-modern and modern culture.

John P. Welle is Professor Emeritus of Italian at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on modern Italian literature and culture. His translations of Andrea Zanzotto’s poetry were awarded the Raiziss-Palchi Prize from the Academy of America Poets.
